Ship Shak on the River

Bryson City, North Carolina, United States

Overview

Set on a beautiful river view property, The Ship Shak studio home is the perfect location for your Bryson City getaway. The unique 20’ shipping container really boasts gorgeous sweeping views of the Tuckasegee river. You may not want to leave the sounds and views of the river, even with charming downtown Bryson City less than one mile away and the entrance to the Great Smokies National Park with its walking trails and waterfalls only minutes away.

Bedroom

The bedroom shares the same space as the small kitchenette, but it does not take the coziness away. There is a very comfortable queen size bed with nice linens. The bed is surrounded by two big windows on the sides which make for a super scenic view every morning and evening. There is a Smart TV hanging on the wall which allows you to login to your favorite internet streaming provider. YouTube TV service is provided or you can watch the TV Plus app for free without a login.

Bathroom

Most tiny homes this size do not have an ensuite bathroom, but this house does. The bathroom is more spacious than expected with shower, plenty of fluffy towels and modern sink. All the essentials such as hot water, shampoo, soap, and toilet paper are well provided, but no hair dryer or washer.

Livingspace

Step inside the Ship Shak to discover a well appointed space, while small, has all the touches you expect. The space is super clean and cozy. It is a neat concept and very well designed. There are a lot of design details you will enjoy inside that make you fail to realize that it is indeed a shipping container.

Do not let the space confuse you as there is plenty of room inside the Ship Shak to make you feel comfortable that is perfect for couples getaway. It is so quiet at night which makes it very pleasant for sleeping. It is also fully equipped with amenities for a few comfortable days away. There are tons of outlets and great tasting water. The kitchenette is small but has everything you need for easy meals: a microwave, toaster oven and hotplate. Coffee is good, plenty of storage for two, cold fridge, pots and pans, plus a portable burner for cooking inside.

Exterior

This studio space boasts gorgeous sweeping views of the Tuckasegee river. Watch the river go by from the comfortable chairs on the covered porch or fire pit area. It is beautifully lit at night so you can sit outside and enjoy the outdoors! The fire pit area contains a small charcoal grill and grilling grate that swings over the fire pit for cooking. You will just need to bring along charcoal and firewood to complete the experience! Dogs are allowed for a fee.

There are railroad tracks right in front of the property so just be mindful of watching out for a train as you come and go. During the holiday season, the polar express passes by so you can enjoy waving at the people on the train as they pass by you making s’mores on the fire. River is right there for fishing and the views are very calming and stunning – nice smooth water, and it is a little off the beaten path so there is not a ton of traffic. Still, the location is amazing.

The Ship Shak is 1 mile away from DT Bryson City which is perfect for grabbing food and groceries. There are plenty of local restaurants within a 5 minute drive to get takeout like Everett’s Diner, and a bunch of local breweries. You are also decently close to all the adventures in the area. The entrance to the Great Smokies National Park with its walking trails and waterfalls is also only minutes away. It is close to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and just a 20 minute drive to Cherokee as well.
